The smile of your dreams is no longer out of reach. Danville Family Dentist in Danville, California, provides advanced cosmetic services to give you a straighter and brighter smile with veneers or crowns. If you’d like to learn how Dr. Shailaja Singh can improve the appearance of your teeth, call the office or book an appointment online today.

Over time, teeth become discolored and prone to damage because of eating habits, smoking, and improper dental hygiene. This wear and tear of teeth can greatly impact your smile, and your appearance in general. Veneers are the solution! With veneers, you can get your perfect and beautiful smile back again.

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin layers or shells of ceramic/porcelain which are adhered to the front of the teeth to improve their appearance. They can be fixed onto any tooth, but for cosmetic reasons, they are usually applied to top front teeth. There are permanently attached so you must decide wisely if you need them or not.

When can I go for a Veneer?

A veneer can be an excellent alternative to crowns. If you have undesirable size, shape, or color of teeth, veneers can mask all these. Veneers are also ideal for filling the gap between front teeth or correcting the appearance of teeth that are chipped.

What are the Advantages of Veneers?

Veneers are the ideal alternative to any cosmetic dentistry procedure. They are thin and look like natural teeth and adhere tightly to the teeth. Veneers last for many years, especially when if you take care of them properly.

What is the Process of Placing Veneers?

The teeth are first prepared by removing a thin layer of enamel where the veneers are to be placed. This removal of enamel is to make sure that the veneer is placed and adhered properly.  After preparation, Dr. Singh at Danville Family Dentist  will capture the impressions of the teeth/tooth and send them to the lab to make the veneers.
It takes two visits to complete veneers placements. In the second visit, the dentist will bond the veneers to your teeth with unique adhesive material. Before finalizing them, the dentist will show you the veneers by placing them on your teeth to check if you are happy with the shade and overall appearance. Once adhered,

it’ll take a few days to get used to the veneers. But there are no other restrictions or problems after the procedure.

root canal 08 Sep 2018

Root Canals

Danville Family Dentist

Shailaja Singh ,DDS

Dentist located in Danville, CA

Severe dental pain can often be caused by inflammation or infection in your tooth’s root. If left untreated, the infection may become so severe that the tooth needs to be pulled, but at Danville Family Dentist in Danville, California, Dr. Shailaja Singh performs root canal procedures to save infected teeth and prevent the need for extraction. If you’re experiencing tooth pain, call the office or book an appointment online.

The root canal is the process used to treat infections or recurrent infections of a tooth. Recurrent tooth infections leads to decaying teeth. In this situation, Danville Family Dentist  performs a root canal. In this way, the tooth is saved, and the target source of infection is removed.

Do I need a Root Canal?

The root canal is generally needed when you are experiencing any of the following:

  • A deep enough decay of a tooth, which affects the gums.
  • A cracked tooth.
  • Severe pain while chewing which does not go away even after treatments.
  • Hot and cold sensitivity.
  • Tender and swollen gums.

How is Root Canal Performed?

There is a pulp inside your tooth beneath the dentin and outer enamel layer. The pulp contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. The pulp, along with infected bacteria, debris and decayed tissue are removed via an access hole drilled into the tooth. The cavity is then cleaned and sealed.

Is Root Canal Painful?

Usually, the dentist gives anesthesia to numb the area where the root canal is to be performed. So, it is not painful; however, the area is sore and numb after the procedure. This can cause discomfort for a few days after the root canal.

What to Expect After Root Canal?

The root canal is a safe procedure, and one can go back to work the next day. But there may be sensitivity or discomfort in the tooth. The dentist will prescribe medications to ease the discomfort. It is advised not to eat foods that increases discomfort or not to eat much until the numbness goes away.

How Much does it Cost?

The cost of a root canal depends on the tooth and the severity of the problem leading to it. The molars are difficult to manage and takes more time; therefore, the cost is more than other teeth. Call Danville Family Dentist To find out the cost and the produce of Root canals in detail.

extraction 07 Sep 2018

Extraction

Danville Family Dentist

Shailaja Singh ,DDS

Dentist located in Danville, CA

No one wants to lose a tooth, but Dr. Shailaja Singh at Danville Family Dentist may recommend a tooth extraction for a decayed or damaged tooth in order to improve the overall health of your mouth. If you’re in the Danville, California, area and have concerns about the health of a tooth, call the office or schedule an appointment today using the online booking agent.

Permanent teeth can last a lifetime, but at times the tooth needs removal, this is known as an extraction. We are going to discuss the types of extractions and the causes which lead to tooth be extracted.

What are the factors that lead to Extraction?

The common cause of an extraction is a severely damaged or decayed tooth, which cannot be restored. The other reasons include:

  • Severe infection or a risk of infection
  • An impacted wisdom tooth with unbearable pain.
  • Hyperdontia, blocking the way of other teeth.
  • Fractured or deformed teeth.
  • Periodontal disease or infection.

What are the Types of Extraction?

Extraction seems to be a simple removal of tooth or teeth, but there are two types of Extraction used in Danville Family Dentist

  1. Simple Extraction: it means the removal of the tooth that is easily accessible in the mouth under local anesthesia. The dentist then elevates the gum tissue pulling the tooth back and forth to loosen it and then removes it by forceps.

  1. Surgical Extraction: it means the removal of the tooth that is hidden or is not easily accessible. This type of Extraction requires an incision. The common causes of surgical Extraction are the teeth that are not erupted fully or a broken tooth under the gum. The tooth can be removed by breaking into pieces.

What is Post Extraction Care?

After Extraction, you can go home, but the full recovery of the extraction site may take a few days. Following these steps helps in easing discomfort and speeds the recovery process.

  • Take the medicines as prescribed by the dentist.
  • The dentist places a gauze pad on the extraction site. It is recommended that you bite firmly pressing the gauze. This will stop bleeding by forming a clot. Change the gauze pad if it gets soaked.
  • Avoid spitting or rinsing your mouth forcefully as this can start bleeding from the site again.
  • Eat soft foods until one day after Extraction and gradually add solid foods.

Dentures

Danville Family Dentist

Shailaja Singh ,DDS

Dentist located in Danville, CA

Losing teeth is common as you get older, but if missing teeth interfere with your ability to eat or speak, dentures might be a great option for you. At Danville Family Dentist, Dr. Shailaja Singh offers denture options, including full and partial dentures, for a variety of situations. Call the Danville Family Dentist office today for an appointment or book online.

Dentures are artificial and removable teeth that are used in place of missing ones. They tend to fit snuggly to replace the missing teeth or fill the gaps. The dentures are made to fit in your mouth and are matched visually to your existing teeth. Dentures are made of acrylic, metal or nylon depending on the situation.

Types of Dentures

Three types of dentures are available to be used:

  1. Complete/full dentures: These dentures replace all of the natural teeth on the upper or lower jaw.

  1. Partial dentures: This type of denture is used when a tooth or a few teeth are missing. It is also used in place of other teeth replacement methods such as dental bridges. It is made to rest on a metal framework that is fitted to the surrounding natural teeth.

  1. Immediate dentures: These types of dentures are used when the teeth are extracted for permanent dentures, and the gums are in the healing phase. The healing time can be up to six months, and these accommodate mouth changes before applying permanent dentures.

How to Look After Dentures?

Just like natural teeth, dentures also need regular cleaning. Due to eating, bacteria and plaque can build up on dentures which can be harmful to the remaining teeth and gums. To clean them, take them out of the mouth and run clean water. Brush the dentures with a denture cleaner. After cleaning, rinse them thoroughly under running water.

If dentures are removed at night, they must be kept in a moist place like in water or denture cleaning solution. It will prevent them from drying up and changing shape.

Apart from cleaning dentures, it is also essential to maintain proper oral hygiene to prevent gum disease or remaining teeth from decaying. Brush your remaining teeth twice daily with a soft-bristled brush and using fluoride toothpaste. Keeping good oral hygiene and proper denture cleaning will allow the dentures to last longer than usual.

  • Inhaled minimal sedation: laughing gas or nitrous oxide is inhaled along with oxygen by means of a nasal mask. The dentist will decide the amount and duration of sedation required as it wears off quickly. This will make you feel relaxed, and you are fully conscious after the dental procedure is completed.

  • Oral sedation: if minimal to moderate sedation is required, this can be achieved by an oral pill taken half an hour before the procedure. It can make the patient drowsy or fall asleep if moderate sedation is required. In the latter case, the patient can be aroused by shaking gently.

  • IV Sedation: in this type, the sedative medication is given via vein, and the level of sedation is moderate.

  • General anesthesia or deep sedation: this is the deepest level of sedation in which the patient becomes almost unconscious or in a deep sleep. The patient becomes conscious when the effect of the medication wears off or when it is reversed.

Who are the candidates for Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is usually safe if given for mild to a moderate level which is suitable for:

  • Patients with fear or anxiety.
  • Patients with a low threshold of pain.
  • Patients having a bad gag reflex.
  • Patient whose surgery takes a lot of time.
  • Children who are not cooperative.

invisalign 04 Sep 2018

Invisalign

Danville Family Dentist

Shailaja Singh ,DDS

Dentist located in Danville, CA

Traditional metal braces can be uncomfortable and unsightly. At Danville Family Dentist in Danville, California, Dr. Shailaja Singh offers a more aesthetically pleasing alternative in the form of invisible braces, including both the InvisalignⓇ and the Six Month SmilesⓇ systems. Danville Family Dentist also offers convenient payment plans to fit every budget. Call today or book an appointment online to learn more.

Have you ever been conscious about your smile because of crooked teeth but are worried to get braces? Usually, people don’t want to get metal braces on their teeth because they standout and don’t look very good. A way to bypass all of that, is an innovative teeth straightening procedure with invisible aligners, which is known as Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a technique to straighten the teeth without visible braces. It involves trays without any metal or wires which irritate teeth and gums. Invisalign is not noticeable in your mouth but is as effective as traditional metal braces. The trays are also easily removable for brushing or eating.

What is Invisalign Process?

After Dr. Singh confirms that you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign she takes scans of your teeth. After the images are taken these are sent to the Invisalign laboratory as models to make your personalized trays. When your trays are ready, the dentist will call you to collect them. Your dentist will fit the trays by small invisible attachments that are painless to attach. After fitting the tray, your next visit will be after a few weeks in which your progress is checked, and if needed, the tray is changed. The duration of the whole Invisalign process depends on the severity of misalignment.

How Long it Takes?

The length of the procedure to get the desired straightening results depends on the severity of misalignment and compliance of the patient. It usually takes 10 to 24 months but for those requiring only a small degree of straightening, desired results can be achieved only in a few months.

Why is Invisalign a Good Choice?

Invisalign are preferable over the traditional metal braces because of the following reasons:

  • They are cosmetically acceptable by everyone being barely noticeable.
  • They are made of plastic which has no sharp edges unlike metal braces, making them comfortable.
  • They are easily removable, which makes it easy to brush or floss your teeth. Also, cleaning the trays is easy.
  • The follow-up time is less than other treatments. It requires a follow-up visit every six weeks to the dentist to check progress which saves time.

one day crown 02 Sep 2018

One Day Crowns

Danville Family Dentist

Shailaja Singh ,DDS

Dentist located in Danville, CA

Traditional crowns can sometimes take up to multiple weeks, at Danville Family Dentist in Tracy, California, Dr. Singh can give you a straighter and brighter smile with veneers or crowns in a single visit using CEREC® CAD/CAM.  If you’d like to learn how Dr. Shailaja Singh can improve the appearance of your teeth, call the office or book an appointment online today.

Due to advancements in dental technology, it is now possible to get dental crowns in a single day and a single visit. Same day crown is a lifesaver for busy individuals as it allows you to walk into the dentist’s room and come out with your smile restored. The process is quick and patient friendly.

What is One Day CREC?

Same or one day crown is made possible through ceramic restoration. It is a system that generates ceramic fillings in a single visit. Both CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) are used in making these one-day crowns. The whole process is completed within a few hours. First, the intraoral camera takes the 3D image of the tooth. The dentist then designs this image with precise measurements with indentations, pits, and ridges. After finalizing the design, the crown is created by milling the tooth from ceramic material. It is then glued to the tooth.

Why CEREC is Better Than Traditional Crowns?

One day crowns are better than traditional ones in many ways:

  • One day crown process can be completed in a single visit, and you are free from the hassle of visiting the dentist multiple times.
  • It looks and feels like a real tooth.
  • It can last longer than traditional crowns.
  • One day crowns are safer as they do not involve temporary crowning which may dislodge causing injury.
  • CEREC also prevents decay which can be caused by dislodged temporary crowns used in traditional crowning.

How Much CEREC Costs?

Usually, one-day crowns do not cost more than traditional crowns. The material and machinery used in making one-day crowns are more expensive, but the cost is cut down due to a single visit and no dental lab cost. So, the cost of CEREC is similar to a traditional crown. On average it costs around $700 to $900, but it depends on the location and your dentist.

implants 01 Sep 2018

Dental Implants

Danville Family Dentist

Shailaja Singh ,DDS

Dentist located in Danville, CA

It’s time to get your smile back. If missing teeth are making you self-conscious, Dr. Shailaja Singh of Danville Family Dentist in Danville, California, is ready to discuss dental implants with you. Dental implants can support crowns or bridges that look, feel, and function like your natural teeth, restoring your smile — and your confidence. Call today or book an appointment online.

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium that is implanted into your jaw. Dental implants hold replacement teeth, most commonly crowns or bridges, but they can also support dentures.

Are dental implants a good choice for me?

If you’re self-conscious about the appearance of your teeth, dental implants can restore your confidence and your smile.

During an initial consultation, Dr. Singh will evaluate your teeth and mouth to see if dental implants are the right tooth replacement option for you. She takes X-rays and evaluates your jawbone to ensure that it’s dense enough to support the implant.

In some cases, if you don’t have enough bone in your jaw, a bone graft can be performed, moving bone tissue from another part of your body.

How are dental implants placed?

Dr. Singh will discuss anesthesia options with you during your first appointment, including oral conscious sedation, where she administers medication that helps you relax and numbs the area but doesn’t put you entirely to sleep.

During the procedure, Dr. Singh drills into the jawbone and places a titanium post. Over the next several months, your jawbone will heal, naturally fusing to the titanium post, which also strengthens your jaw. Once you’ve healed, Dr. Singh attaches a connector to the post, which holds and secures your crown, bridge, or dentures.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

There are several great reasons to consider dental implants, including:

  • Improved appearance: implants look like your natural teeth

  • Better self-esteem: replacing missing teeth will make you want to smile more

  • Better oral health: if you’ve been avoiding brushing the gums where teeth are missing, you can now brush and floss just as you would with natural teeth

  • Added strength: because implants fuse with your jawbone, they strengthen the tissue and prevent bone deterioration

How do I care for my dental implants?

Implants function, look, and feel like your natural teeth. Even better, they don’t develop cavities! You brush and floss your dental implants just as you would your natural teeth. You’ll maintain regular appointments for checkups and cleanings and to make sure your teeth and gums remain healthy.

Danville Family Dentist also offers easy payment plans for dental implants — call today or book an appointment online.
